Spanish Evaluation Process

Please submit before June 16, 2017

To complete your application for admission to the UCLA SIBT Spanish Bilingual Authorization program, please follow the directions below to send 1) Speaking Sample (.mp3 or .mp4 file) and a Writing Sample (.pdf) to info@confucius.ucla.edu with the Subject Line: Spanish Language Evaluation Materials.

Instructions

According to the California CTC, candidates seeking the Spanish Bilingual Authorization must demonstrate a range of language competence equivalent to passing the CSET. While passage of the CSET Spanish is not required for the UCLA SIBT program, candidates must provide evidence of advanced language proficiency. Before admission to the SIBT program in Spanish, candidates are asked to submit a speaking and writing sample. Candidates will be informed of admissions after an evaluation of samples. Demonstrating advanced proficiency is a pre-requisite to participation in the Bilingual Authorization in Spanish. See the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) Proficiency Standards Descriptions found in Appendix C.

Below are the directions for submitting samples. The speaking and writing sample should reflect a candidate’s language abilities. There is an expectation that submission represent what candidates can do with language without assistance. We ask that candidates refrain from using spell-checks, thesaurus, dictionaries, Google translate and proofreaders. In this way, the instructors can provide an honest assessment of language ability. A candidate must be able to function at advanced proficiency in order to participate in the UCLA SIBT program.

Language Placement Exercises
