The China Arts Fellowship (CAF) is a new 6-month program that offers recent UCLA graduates* (2015-2017) the chance to live, study, and gain professional experience in Shanghai, one of the world’s most vibrant global arts centers. The program will commence in late February, 2018.
Blending classroom instruction and experiential learning, the China Arts Fellowship will allow graduates to become part of the creative currents flowing between China and California. CAF participants will live and study at Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s School of Humanities, located in the heart of Shanghai’s famous French Concession. Each week they will study 10 hours of Mandarin language (beginner to advanced intermediate levels) and spend up to 16 hours working as interns at a Shanghai-based arts institution. This program is not designed for native speakers of Mandarin or those with extensive experience living in China.
The UCLA China Arts Fellowship provides free housing, tuition, living stipend, medical insurance, and 2-weeks of guided travel in China. Participants will be responsible for their international airfare and the cost of a Chinese student visa.
