The 2015 Advanced Seminar on Chinese Culture and Arts is a partnership program with the China Conservatory of Music (中央音乐学院) and the Univerity of Michigan. The program will take place in China from July 10-23. During the first week of the program, participants will explore the diverse musical cultures of China's Yunnan Province in southwest China. The 2nd week of the program will take place on the campus of the China Conservatory of Music, one of China's premier arts institutions. Particpants will participate in a in-depth seminar on Chinese music led by faculty from the Central Conservatory of Music and distinguished international musicologists.
International airfare, housing, and food in China will be covered by the UCLA Confucius Institute. Students will be responsible for securing a Chinese tourist visa ($140).
This program has limited enrollment and open to UCLA current juniors, seniors and graduate students who have successfully participated in the UCLA Department of Ethnomusicology's Music of China Ensemble. Mandarin profiency is not required. Selected participants will be asked to write a report about their experience and give a public presentation in the fall quarter on an aspect of Chinese culture/music explored during the Advanced Seminar China.
