In the largest program of its kind,115 teachers from China spent 10 days at UCLA--3 of which were spent practicing to teach Chinese to American students, while being critiqued and supervised by mentor teachers. Some 170 lucky students from 82 different Los Angeles schools had the chance to learn Chinese language, calligraphy, taichi, wushu, and other traditional Chinese cultural arts. The teachers also participated in a panel discussion with principals, parents, students, and teachers hearing the first-hand challenges and successes of teaching Chinese in American schools.
